"Dance when you're broken open. Dance if you've torn the bandage off. Dance in the middle of the fighting. Dance in your blood. Dance when you are perfectly free."
-Rumi
I am Palestinian-Armenian-American mother, dancer, teacher, writer, textile artist, printmaker, and Fronteriza from El Paso, TX. I hold a Masters of Arts in Teaching- Dance from New Mexico State University and a BFA in Dance Performance from the University of Texas at El Paso. My special interests include inclusive ballet and contemporary dance pedagogy focused on dancer health and ability inclusion; research in pre/post diaspora Levantine and Armenian cultural expression; and the relationship between the Levantine diaspora and the development of unique cross-cultural visual, culinary, and movement practices in the Paso del Norte Region.
I am a writer and grant writer who began my two decade career as an intern at the El Paso Times from 1999-2000. Between 2000 and 2017, I worked as a contributing writer and/or regular columnist for a number of local publications including: Stanton Street Weekly, What’s Up, El Paso Inc., and Newspaper Tree. From 2008-2013, I served on the board of Paso del Norte Civil Rights Project.
I am serving as the Development Associate for New Ballet San José- a ballet company and school providing exemplary, accessible dance training and performance programming with a focus on dancer physical and mental health, and individual development.
